A customer from Sunbury called about a back door that would no longer shut properly.
He had already had a fair go at fixing it himself. Normally, when somebody tells me that, you half expect to find the locking system on the floor with screws missing, bits everywhere and a headache waiting to happen. Not this time though — you could barely tell the lock had even been off the door, so fair play to him.
As soon as I lifted the handle, I could feel something inside the mechanism blocking it and stopping the handle from travelling all the way up. I opened the gearbox and removed the broken pieces, hoping that might be enough, but unfortunately it still would not operate properly.
I had a new genuine replacement part on the van. After fitting it and widening the bolt space in the mechanism slightly, everything lined up and the back door was working as it should again.
