When an emergency locksmith is needed
Emergency locksmith work is not limited to lost keys. Common callouts include nightlatches that will not retract, keys that turn without operating the lock, multipoint mechanisms that fail with the door shut, broken cylinders and doors that suddenly will not lock because the mechanism or alignment has given up.
I use non-destructive entry wherever it is practical and sensible. Sometimes a failed component is already damaged beyond recovery, but I do not drill or replace parts simply because it is quicker.
The fault may be more than the lock
On uPVC, composite and aluminium doors, a failed gearbox can be only part of the problem. Worn hinges, poor alignment or badly positioned keeps can overload the locking system. I check how the whole door is working so a new part is not fitted straight back into the same fault.
What I carry
The van carries a range of common cylinders, nightlatches, mortice locks, handles, multipoint gearboxes and other repair parts. Where the correct part is available and the condition of the door allows it, I aim to leave the property secure on the first visit.
