Door lock repair before replacement
People often search for a door lock repair when the real fault could be inside the lock, in the cylinder, in the handle or in the way the door sits in the frame. I check what is actually causing the problem first. If a serviceable part can be retained, I would rather do that than replace good hardware unnecessarily.
Lock changes and replacement locks
I also carry out lock changes when keys have been lost, a property has changed hands, a lock is badly worn or the existing hardware is no longer suitable. This includes common front door and internal door locks as well as cylinders and nightlatches.
Where security or an insurance requirement is the reason for changing the lock, I can fit an appropriate British Standard option and explain what has been changed.
Typical lock faults
- Key difficult to turn or remove
- Lock will not latch or deadlock correctly
- Nightlatch will not retract
- Loose or failed door handles
- Broken or spinning cylinders
- Old or damaged mortice and sash locks
