A customer in Feltham got in touch because he could no longer open the door from the inside.
When I arrived, the door had been left slightly open because they didn’t want to close it fully and risk trapping themselves inside. As soon as I removed the nightlatch backbox I could hear something rattling around inside, which is rarely a promising sign.
I opened the case and found the latch puller broken into two pieces. There wasn’t a sensible repair available for that failure, so the unit needed replacing.
This particular model isn’t something I normally keep on the van because they’re relatively uncommon and fairly expensive. I ordered the correct replacement for the following day.
The customer was still able to secure the property overnight using the separate deadlock lower down the door, and I returned around midday the next day to fit and test the new nightlatch.
