A customer in Staines got in touch because the door would no longer lock properly and the key could not be removed from the cylinder.
Testing showed that the multipoint mechanism itself was still moving, but the cylinder would not rotate far enough to engage the locking bolt. In fact, it was barely moving at all.
That created another problem. Because the cylinder cam was trapped inside the gearbox, I could not remove the barrel in the normal way and therefore could not take the multipoint system out of the door.
The cylinder itself was still serviceable, so there was no reason to destroy it just to reach the actual fault. Instead, I removed the gearbox faceplate and released the trapped cam so the mechanism could come out.
I had the correct replacement gearbox in stock and fitted it during the visit.
Once everything was reassembled and tested, the key could turn normally again and the multipoint locking system was working as it should.
