A customer in Croydon got in touch because the patio sliding door had become difficult to lock.
Once on site, I removed the cylinder from the gearbox and the fault became obvious: an internal component in the locking system had broken.
I did not have the required lock in van stock because this particular type does not fail very often.
Fortunately, I was close to one of my suppliers, so I went over to see what was available.
The exact original lock was no longer in stock, but the customer agreed to use a suitable alternative brand and, by luck, the supplier had one left.
The replacement did not come with the matching strike plate, so I had to reuse and adapt the existing keep.
After some cutting, drilling, repositioning and final adjustment, the replacement lock was operating correctly and the patio door was locking properly again.
