An estate agent I work with asked me to visit a property in Farnborough where the tenant could no longer operate a window handle and there were no keys available for it.
Keeping spare keys for every style of window handle is not realistic because there are far too many different handle and key combinations in circulation.
Rather than spend time trying to match an unknown key, I released the locked handle and replaced it with a new one.
Before leaving, I checked the actual window locking mechanism as well to make sure the handle problem had not been hiding a separate fault.
The locking system was working properly, so no further parts were needed.
It was one of those welcome straightforward jobs: the new handle was fitted, the window was usable again and I was back on the road around ten minutes later.
