A customer in Gerrards Cross got in touch because two windows were no longer working properly and one of them was blocked shut.
The gearbox on the jammed window was so badly failed that opening it used up what felt like several weeks’ worth of patience.
Once I finally managed to get the window open, I sourced a replacement gearbox and discovered the next problem. The connecting rods on the existing mechanism used a different connection from the replacement unit.
At first I thought that would be easy enough because I had spare rods available, but the new connection was a push-and-twist type rather than the simpler push-fit arrangement I was expecting.
That turned the repair into another hour or so of careful work getting the rods and gearbox connected correctly.
Eventually everything came together. Once rebuilt and tested, the window mechanism was operating properly again and the previously blocked window could open and lock as it should.
