A customer in Purley got in touch because the front-door multipoint locking system had become unreliable. He originally expected that the complete lock would need changing.
Once on site, I found a much smaller culprit. One screw had worked loose and was interfering with the correct operation of the mechanism.
I removed the screw, applied thread-locking compound and refitted it securely.
The system then worked reasonably well, but the customer wanted the door given a proper service and adjustment while I was there rather than simply leaving it at that.
I removed the handles, cylinder and multipoint mechanism, cleaned the components thoroughly and lubricated the moving parts before reassembling everything.
I also made a few small hinge adjustments so the locking points lined up more cleanly with the frame.
After the service, the complete system was operating smoothly and consistently again without needing a replacement lock.
