A customer in Shepperton got in touch because the multipoint lock had started behaving intermittently and the door handles were getting harder to operate.
Sometimes the key would simply spin without unlocking the door. At other times the handles could not be lifted far enough to engage the multipoint locking points.
I tested the system with the door both open and closed. Although the mechanism would still work eventually, the behaviour was clearly not normal and the gearbox was showing the signs of internal wear.
I explained the repair and quoted for replacing the worn centre case. The customer approved the work, so I fitted a new multipoint gearbox.
After the gearbox replacement, I also adjusted the door hinges and frame keeps to reduce the resistance on the new mechanism. Once everything was aligned and tested, the handles and key operated easily and consistently again rather than working only when they felt like it.
