A customer in Richmond got in touch because the garden bi-fold doors had become extremely difficult to open and close and he wanted them properly inspected and adjusted.
Once on site, I could see how far the problem had progressed. There were two sets of bi-folds and neither had been serviced since installation years earlier.
One door was so badly out of alignment that it had started digging into the bottom frame.
This is exactly why I keep repeating the same maintenance advice: when a large door system becomes noticeably harder to operate, continuing to force it rarely improves anything. Misalignment increases the strain on rollers, hinges, handles and locking components until something eventually breaks.
I spent around two hours working through the alignment and adjustment of the doors.
By the end, they were no longer rubbing and were operating substantially better than before. I still would not describe them as perfect, because the doors and frame themselves were not especially straight and the original installation left limitations that adjustment alone could not completely remove.
Considering the condition when I arrived, it was fortunate nothing had already broken or been torn from the system.
