A customer in Ashford asked me to look at a window that had become impossible to open properly.
When the handle was turned, one side of the locking mechanism released but the other side stayed engaged, keeping the window permanently shut.
Blocked windows like this can be awkward to open because the mechanisms are often corroded, rusty or partly seized by the time they fail.
On this occasion, I was fortunate enough to reach the stuck side and pull it back without causing damage to the window.
Once the sash was open, I removed the failed locking component and fitted a new part from van stock.
After reassembly, I tested the handle and locking points several times. Both sides were releasing correctly again and the window was opening and locking normally.
