A customer in Ashford asked me to look at a garden French door that would no longer lock.
They had already tried to repair the problem and had ordered a replacement cylinder after the old one had been drilled out, but the cylinder was not the real fault.
The multipoint gearbox had broken apart internally and, because the gearbox was bolted to the faceplate, the complete mechanism had to be replaced. To make matters more awkward, the original system was obsolete.
I sourced a suitable replacement mechanism, but before fitting it I first adjusted the doors so the new system would not be installed into the same poor alignment.
Once the door was sitting correctly, I installed the replacement multipoint mechanism together with a new handle and a new thumb-turn cylinder.
After final adjustments and testing, the French door was opening, closing and locking normally again.
