A customer in Ashford was struggling to close the main door on an aluminium bi-fold set serving an outbuilding. From the description over the phone, I initially suspected that the multipoint lock might be failing or already broken, so I quoted on that basis before attending.
The first thing I did on site was test the locking mechanism with the door open. On this occasion it worked perfectly, which told me the lock itself was not the problem. The issue was with the way the door was sitting and closing rather than an internal failure of the multipoint mechanism.
I explained that to the customer, re-quoted for the adjustment work actually required and got on with it. After around 15 minutes of adjustment, the bi-fold door was closing and operating properly again.
This is why it is worth dealing with a door when it starts becoming difficult rather than forcing it until something breaks. If a handle is getting harder to lift or a door needs a fight every time you close it, the fault may still be a relatively simple alignment problem. It will not normally improve by itself.
