uPVC window locking mechanism repairs
I repair window espagnolette and locking mechanisms, including windows that are stuck shut or where the handle moves without operating the locking points. The mechanism is identified before parts are ordered or replaced because lengths, backsets and connection details vary between systems.
Window hinge replacement and alignment
Worn friction hinges can leave a gap at the hinge side of the window, create draughts or stop the sash closing squarely. Replacing the hinges and setting the sash correctly can restore the seal and take strain off the locking mechanism.
Handles and jammed windows
A failed handle does not automatically mean the complete window mechanism is broken, and a jammed window does not always mean the handle is the fault. I check the interaction between the handle, gearbox, locking points, hinges and frame before deciding what needs replacing.
Common symptoms
- Window handle moves but the window stays locked
- uPVC window will not open or is jammed shut
- Window will not lock or the handle will not close fully
- Gap or draught at the hinge side
- Broken, loose or seized window handle
- Locking mechanism feels rough or stiff
