A customer in Thames Ditton called because the sliding patio door had developed a few problems, one of them being that the inside handle was no longer operating the multipoint lock.
The door was fitted with a Siegenia Aubi locking mechanism and a rather nice pair of handles, roughly 12 inches long, with three positions: open, stop and lock.
I removed the handles to see what was happening on the inside, and the problem became obvious straight away. Over time, the spindle had moved out of position and was no longer being engaged properly by the internal handle.
The exterior handle was also heavily corroded and the spindle had seized inside the handle mechanism. I did not have a replacement set available, so I cleaned everything as much as possible, lubricated the mechanism and reassembled it.
The customer preferred not to replace the damaged parts at that stage, so the existing hardware was put back into service after the clean-up and adjustment.
