A local customer in Ashford was having problems locking the door.
After removing the multipoint mechanism, I found the gearbox was at fault. I had the correct genuine replacement on the van, so I swapped the failed gearbox and got the locking mechanism working properly again.
While I was there, I also pointed out that the existing lock was getting tired and offered relatively low security. The customer decided to upgrade it to a British Standard lock with a thumb turn on the inside for convenience.
Because the door did not have a letterbox, the thumb-turn option made sense for easy operation from inside without creating the same letterbox-access concern.
The gearbox replacement and lock upgrade were both completed on the same visit.
