A customer in Windsor got in touch because a relatively new set of bi-fold doors had become extremely difficult to operate.
During the initial inspection, I could see that the middle of the frame had bowed inward at both the top and bottom. The distortion had become severe enough that the top guide was scraping aluminium from the frame. What had started as a normal adjustment job had effectively become a rescue job for the whole bi-fold set.
This was one of the most demanding bi-fold adjustments I had carried out. I removed the glazing from the door panels so the leaves could be adjusted properly, then worked through the alignment of each section.
The middle hinges and top guide roller needed adjustment as well. The master door also had problems of its own, so I adjusted the multipoint lock and the frame keeps to get the locking side operating correctly.
After a good hour or more of careful adjustment, the doors were sliding smoothly again and the master door was locking as it should. Considering how difficult they had been to use when I arrived, the difference was substantial.
