A customer in Sunbury-on-Thames got in touch because two bedroom uPVC windows were blocked shut. He still had the keys, but neither handle would move.
That usually points to one of two areas: either the window mechanism has failed or the handle itself has broken internally.
In this case, once I managed to get the windows open, the locking mechanisms were operating correctly. The actual fault was inside both handles. When they were returned to the locked position, the release mechanism inside the handles would no longer disengage, so they could not be turned again.
Both windows had developed the same problem.
I had suitable replacement handles in van stock, so there was no need to order parts or make a return visit. I replaced both handles, tested the windows and restored normal opening and locking operation within minutes.
