A returning customer in Sunbury-on-Thames asked me to look at a pair of French doors that were becoming increasingly difficult to close.
The master door was badly misaligned and was striking the keeps on the slave door hard enough that pieces of the plastic frame were starting to chip away.
I began removing the hinge covers so I could adjust the door properly and found the main reason the alignment had become so bad: the top hinge, which needed the most adjustment, was broken.
I explained the repair and gave the customer the cost before ordering the correct hinge. I carry several hinge types in the van, but there are dozens of different designs and this particular model was not one of them.
The replacement arrived the following day. I fitted the new hinge and then adjusted the door until the two leaves lined up and closed properly again.
With the hinge replaced and the alignment corrected, the French doors were operating normally without grinding into the opposite frame.
