The same customer in Bracknell who had previously asked me to look at a faulty window handle also wanted the front-door mechanism checked because it had started giving intermittent problems.
It only took a couple of operations to reproduce the fault. The multipoint mechanism was retracting only around 80% of its normal travel.
That might sound close enough, but on a door mechanism it was still nowhere near enough. The clearance available at the frame was only a few millimetres, while the locking points were still projecting by almost 10 mm.
The existing mechanism therefore needed replacing rather than adjusting.
I did not carry this particular model in van stock, so I ordered the correct multipoint lock and arranged to fit it at the same time as the customer’s other repair to minimise disruption.
Once the replacement was installed and tested, the front-door mechanism was retracting fully and operating normally again.
