A customer in Ashford called because the front-door multipoint mechanism was no longer working from outside, even though it could still be operated from inside. That meant the door could not be locked normally when leaving the property.
I removed the mechanism from the door and the cause of the failure was immediately obvious.
Because the property was only a couple of miles from home, I told the customer I might have the exact internal part needed in my spare-parts box and asked for a few minutes to check.
Sure enough, I found a compatible replacement component, repaired the gearbox and returned to refit the mechanism.
After reinstalling everything, I tested the outside and inside operation several times and the multipoint system was working properly again.
At the time of the job, I gave the customer a 12-month guarantee on the repair. The useful part of this one was that the original mechanism could be repaired rather than replacing the complete system.
