A customer in Ashford got in touch because the patio door was becoming difficult to close and asked whether there was something that could be done.
Once on site, I tested the multipoint locking system and confirmed that the gearbox was developing intermittent faults.
I removed the complete multipoint mechanism from the door so I could inspect it properly. On this particular system, the gearbox was bolted closed, which meant there was no sensible way to dismantle it further and identify or replace an individual internal component.
The customer therefore decided to replace the gearbox rather than continue with an intermittent mechanism that could fail completely.
I had the correct replacement in van stock, fitted it during the visit and then tested the patio door through repeated opening, closing and locking cycles.
With the new gearbox installed, the patio door was operating properly again.
