A customer in Aldershot wanted to replace the existing British Standard nightlatch with a Yale keyless-entry system he had already purchased, but he was understandably cautious about cutting into a relatively new front door.
Before starting, I measured everything carefully and explained what would need to be altered.
As soon as I began, it became clear that the original nightlatch had not been installed particularly well. The available clearance was already tight and the outside section of the new keyless lock was going to sit very close to the frame.
After what felt like a million measurements, I extended the rim-cylinder opening slightly, moved the backbox back by a few millimetres and fitted three screws that had been missing from the original backbox installation.
The new keyless system was then installed level, leaving just under 2 mm of clearance outside.
Once the hardware was fitted, I helped the customer change the PIN and assign the fobs so the system was ready to use.
