A local customer in Ashford called because the garden door could no longer be locked.
Fortunately, the door was still open when the gearbox failed. When a multipoint gearbox breaks with the door already shut and locked, opening it can become a much more difficult job.
I removed the mechanism from the door and opened the gearbox.
The fault was immediately visible: a small metal section had sheared away from the spindle component that controls the position of the mechanism.
Unfortunately, that was not the end of the problem.
The gearbox was obsolete and I could not find a direct replacement anywhere, which meant the complete multipoint locking system had to be replaced instead.
I sourced the new system and returned the following day to install it.
Once fitted and tested, the garden door was locking and operating properly again.
