A customer in Ashford got in touch because the front-door locking mechanism had become increasingly difficult to operate and grinding noises could be heard from inside the gearbox when the handles were moved.
That was a strong warning that the centre case was close to failing completely, and the customer had fortunately called before ending up locked out.
I removed the worn gearbox and fitted the correct replacement.
While I was there, the customer also decided to upgrade the door cylinder to a more secure British Standard option, so the lock upgrade was completed at the same time rather than arranging a separate visit.
Before finishing, I made a slight adjustment to the door hinges so the multipoint mechanism was not working against poor alignment.
With the new gearbox fitted, the upgraded cylinder installed and the door realigned, the handles and locking points were operating smoothly again.
