A local customer in Ashford got in touch because the front-door multipoint locking system had become fiddly and unreliable.
When I tested the mechanism, the latch was only retracting about halfway and the rest of the multipoint system was not disengaging properly.
The gearbox on this model could not be opened sensibly for a component-level repair, so I first tried a thorough clean and lubrication in case the mechanism could be brought back into service. Unfortunately, it made no real difference.
It was not a mechanism I had come across before and I did not have a replacement in van stock. Because the door still needed to be secured, I fitted a temporary overnight latch while I checked whether the original system was still available or had become obsolete.
To my surprise, I managed to source the correct replacement a couple of days later.
I returned at a convenient time for the customer, fitted the new multipoint mechanism and tested the complete door operation. The front door was locking and unlocking normally again.
