A customer in Byfleet got in touch because two top-hung uPVC windows were both catching the frame when closing, and one of them would no longer lock.
On the first visit, I replaced the hinges on one window and removed the locking mechanism from the other so I could identify the failed part. I did not have the correct mechanism in stock, so I ordered it and fitted a temporary sash jammer so the second window could still be secured in the meantime.
I returned a couple of days later with the replacement mechanism and fitted it, including the adjustments needed on the keep side.
The window was locking again, but it was still touching the bottom of the frame. I tried the available adjustments and the hinges were already pushed as far as they could reasonably go, so there was no honest way to pretend the alignment was perfect.
The customer said it was substantially better than before and the window was usable and secure again, although I was not completely satisfied with the remaining contact at the bottom of the frame.
