A returning customer in Ashford got in touch because the outside door handle had sheared off and needed replacing.
Fortunately, I had a suitable replacement handle in van stock, so the broken hardware itself could be dealt with immediately.
I fitted the new handle and then checked the rest of the door rather than simply leaving the new part to work against the same resistance that had probably contributed to the failure.
The hinges and multipoint locking system both needed slight adjustment. I corrected the alignment and reduced the resistance through the locking mechanism so the new handle would not be put under unnecessary strain.
The whole repair was completed on the visit and the door was opening, closing and locking normally again.
If a multipoint-door handle is getting progressively harder to lift or push, that is worth investigating before the extra force ends with a broken handle or a failed gearbox.
