A customer in Ashford wanted a lock reinstated on an aluminium porch door.
Most of the original locking setup had disappeared and only the front section remained, so I had to work with what was still there rather than simply replacing an identical complete unit.
It was an interesting little arrangement that I had not come across before. The rim section was held in place by a small retaining clip from the inside of the aluminium door.
I fitted a new backbox and rim lock from van stock while keeping the existing antique front cover.
The customer wanted to retain that original front piece both because it suited the door and because it still provided the pull function.
Once the new internal components were fitted and adjusted, the porch lock was working properly again while preserving the original exterior appearance.
