A customer in Borehamwood wanted to transform the locking setup on the front door so it could work with a smart lock.
He had already bought the required parts and needed them fitted and set up correctly.
The existing door had a nightlatch higher up and a mortice deadlock below.
The customer did not want to remove the nightlatch completely because that would have left fixing holes to fill and repaint, so I kept the body on the door but removed the latch component so it could not accidentally engage in future.
The mortice deadlock was then removed and replaced with a euro sashlock suitable for the customer’s smart-lock setup.
I drilled the required handle positions and fitted the new handles to the sashlock.
Once the mechanical conversion was complete, the Yale Linus smart lock was installed along with the external keypad.
The keypad allowed the customer to create temporary access codes for guests when needed.
By the end of the job, the original locking arrangement had been converted into a working smart-lock system while avoiding unnecessary cosmetic damage from removing the old nightlatch completely.
