A customer in Chertsey got in touch because a deadlock had become difficult to open. The key would turn only about halfway before stopping.
The lock put up a bit of a fight, but I managed to get it open without having to cut the bolt.
Once the lock was removed from the door and opened, the cause of the problem became obvious. There was a surprising amount of debris inside the case.
I tried cleaning the mechanism first, but by that point the lock had already been forced enough for both the levers and the key to become bent. The damage was beyond sensible repair.
I had a suitable British Standard replacement in van stock, removed the damaged unit and fitted the new lock.
The whole job was completed within roughly 30 minutes of arriving, and the door was opening and locking normally again.
