A customer in Datchet was not particularly happy with the existing sash lock on the front door and wanted an additional layer of security.
I showed him several nightlatch options with different security features and he chose a Yale model that suited what he wanted.
The available space on the door made the installation slightly awkward. On the outside, the rim cylinder had to sit reasonably close to the door seal. Moving to a larger backset would have pushed the lock body too close to the glazing and risked both an untidy overhang and the fixing screws ending up where I did not want them near the glass.
After a bit of what I jokingly called laser-precision measuring, I marked and drilled the opening for the rim cylinder, fitted the nightlatch and chiselled the keep neatly into the frame.
Once everything was aligned and tested, I handed the customer the keys for the new additional lock and the front door had the extra security he wanted.
