A former customer in Dorking asked me to solve a simple but annoying problem with the downstairs cloakroom door: it kept being left open.
With two young children going in and out throughout the day and forgetting to pull the door closed behind them, the easiest solution was to make the door self-closing.
Rather than add a separate closer, I replaced the standard fire-rated hinges with fire-rated sprung hinges.
Once fitted, I adjusted the spring tension carefully so the door would close itself reliably without becoming unnecessarily heavy for the children to open or swinging back too aggressively as they walked through.
After a few tension adjustments, the balance was right and the cloakroom door was closing itself as intended.
A straightforward hardware upgrade, but one that solved the everyday problem without adding bulky extra hardware to the door.
