A customer in Isleworth got in touch because the aluminium living-room window was becoming difficult to lock and unlock.
When I operated the handle, the top section of the locking mechanism was not engaging.
After dismantling the system, I found that the metal plate controlling the upper section had broken away from the rest of the mechanism.
Replacement parts for this type of aluminium-window hardware can be extremely difficult to find, and in many cases the existing system has to be adjusted or adapted rather than simply swapped for a new part.
I spent a good couple of hours working through the mechanism and making the necessary adjustments.
By the end, the window was shutting and operating properly again.
The repair also saved the customer from having to consider replacing the complete window in the middle of winter.
