A customer in Windsor called because the wooden front door would no longer open, leaving him to enter the house through the back garden door.
The customer wanted to keep the existing cylinder, so I worked on opening the failed locking system without replacing it unnecessarily.
Once the door was open and the mechanism removed, the fault was easy to see. A piece of sheared metal was protruding from the back of the gearbox.
Unfortunately, the gearbox itself had been discontinued, so replacing only the failed centre case was not an option.
I ordered a complete full-length multipoint locking system and returned the following day to fit it.
After installation and adjustment, the wooden front door was opening, closing and locking normally again, with the original cylinder retained as requested.
