An estate agent in Slough got in touch about a window repair at a property in Langley. The window was blocked open and the tenant could not operate it, which meant it had to remain permanently open.
As soon as I saw the hardware, I knew I was unlikely to have the correct replacement in van stock. It was an unusual low-handle mechanism, and after some research I found that the exact original part had become obsolete. Only an updated version was still available.
To avoid leaving the tenant with a window that could not be closed, I fitted the smallest suitable temporary mechanism I had in the van. That at least allowed the window to be shut safely while the proper replacement was being sourced.
I ordered one mechanism for the customer and another for van stock because unusual parts have a habit of appearing again once you know about them.
A few days later I returned with the correct updated mechanism, fitted it and made the necessary adjustments to the keeps.
The window was then opening, closing and locking properly again.
