A customer in Richmond got in touch because the bi-fold door had become difficult to lock.
Bi-fold doors rely heavily on correct adjustment, and regular servicing helps reduce unnecessary wear on the hinges, rollers and locking system.
I removed the multipoint mechanism from the door and separated the gearbox to investigate the intermittent fault.
The cause was clear once the gearbox was inspected: a piece of metal had sheared off inside the gear mechanism and was intermittently jamming the system.
I did not have that gearbox in van stock, but fortunately the model was still available.
I ordered the correct replacement and returned the following day to fit it.
After installing the new gearbox, I made the small adjustments needed to the door and tested the complete locking system.
The bi-fold door was locking and operating normally again.
