A customer in Richmond got in touch because the multipoint lock on the front door to her flat had become difficult to operate and would no longer lock properly.
I tried the mechanism on site, but it was not responding and there was no sensible adjustment or lubrication fix available.
I explained that the failed part needed replacing and gave the customer the cost before proceeding. She agreed, and I had the correct replacement in van stock.
The actual gearbox replacement was straightforward. Ironically, I spent more time fighting with the tiny screws in the handles than I did changing the failed component. Whoever had fitted those before had certainly made life interesting.
Once everything was back together, I tested the complete locking system. The handles, key and multipoint mechanism were all operating normally again and the customer could lock the flat door easily.
