A customer in Staines called because he was struggling to lock the front door and the key would not turn.
A key that will not turn can point to several different faults, so one of the first questions I ask is whether the locking procedure works with the door open.
If the answer is no, the fault is usually within the locking system itself. If the mechanism operates correctly with the door open but not when the door is closed, the problem is much more likely to be alignment between the door and frame.
On this job, the multipoint mechanism worked correctly with the door open.
Once on site, the amount of misalignment was obvious. There was enough of a gap between the door and frame to see daylight through it.
I adjusted the door and lubricated the complete multipoint locking system.
After the adjustments, the locking points engaged correctly, the key turned normally and the door was opening and locking as it should again.
