A customer in Stanwell got in touch because the front-door multipoint lock was giving problems and they also wanted a Yale Conexis smart lock they had purchased installed.
Before fitting a smart lock, the underlying door and multipoint mechanism need to be working properly. Adding electronic hardware to a door that is already stiff or badly aligned is simply asking for trouble.
On inspection, the gearbox needed replacing. I fitted the new gearbox first and then realigned the door so the multipoint system operated cleanly without unnecessary resistance.
Only once the mechanical side was behaving properly did I move on to the Yale Conexis installation. A few small adjustments were needed to accommodate the smart-lock handle, but nothing major.
With the groundwork done, the actual smart-lock fitting was the easy part and took around 10 minutes. The customer ended up with a repaired multipoint system, a correctly aligned door and the Yale smart lock installed on top of a properly functioning mechanical setup.
