A customer in Thames Ditton contacted me after being recommended by a friend and asked whether I could help install the glazing in a garden office.
It was not something I normally took on, but because it had come through a recommendation I agreed to have a look.
The glazing system itself was fairly simple. A gasket ran around the inside of the timber frame and the main job was to get each glazed section level before fixing it in place.
My main concern was long-term weatherproofing. Timber moves over time, so I recommended a substantial bead of silicone around the outside where the rubber seal met the frame and suggested checking it again after about a year.
The window section went in very quickly. The door needed more work because it had to be packed underneath and adjusted carefully so it remained level while being fixed.
Once the glazing and door were sitting correctly, everything was sealed and secure. It was slightly outside my normal work, but I learned something useful from the system and enjoyed the job.
