A former customer in Walton got in touch because the handle on a bi-fold door had broken off and the door could no longer be locked.
Once on site, I could see that the handle had simply sheared away. Testing the door also uncovered the reason it had probably been under so much strain: the master bi-fold door was badly misaligned and needed a lot of force to pull it shut.
I spent around half an hour adjusting the door properly. There was plenty of effort involved, but by the end it was opening and closing as it should again.
The handle itself still needed replacing. I do not normally keep this particular type in stock because they are unusually expensive and I had only needed one before, so the correct replacement had to be ordered and fitted on a later visit.
The useful warning from this job is simple: if a bi-fold door is getting harder to close or lock, do not keep forcing it until something gives. Correcting the alignment first can prevent a relatively small adjustment from turning into a broken-hardware repair.
