A former customer in Walton-on-Thames got in touch because the garden patio door was becoming difficult to lock and needed more and more force.
Once on site, the warning signs were fairly obvious. The latch was missing, the key had become bent from repeated forcing and the gearbox had failed completely. The handles would move up and down, but the rest of the multipoint mechanism was no longer responding.
I had a suitable replacement gearbox in stock, so I removed the failed unit and fitted the new one.
The repair did not stop there. The door and locking points needed a good few adjustments so the new gearbox was not immediately being forced against the frame in the same way.
After everything was aligned and tested, the patio-door mechanism was operating correctly again and the customer no longer needed to force the key or handles to secure the door.
