A customer in Hampton got in touch after another locksmith I know passed my details on while he was away. The customer had an up-and-over garage door with snapped cables that was sitting partly open and noticeably crooked.
Garage-door parts are not something I carry in large quantities because they make up only a small part of my normal workload and there are too many variations to sensibly stock them all.
I took the necessary measurements and sourced the correct replacement parts for the following day.
The repair included new cones, cables and anti-drop rollers.
Once the parts arrived, I returned and rebuilt the lifting arrangement. The new components went together without any major surprises and the mechanical repair itself took roughly half an hour.
After testing the door through several opening and closing cycles, the up-and-over mechanism was working properly again and the door was no longer sitting half-open and twisted.
