A customer in Walton-on-Thames got in touch through a recommendation because the multipoint lock on the patio door had become difficult to operate.
Once on site, I tested the locking system and the gearbox immediately sounded unhealthy. Every time the handles were pushed down, there was a grinding noise coming from inside the centre case.
I removed the multipoint mechanism from the door and separated the gearbox for inspection.
With the gearbox off the strip, broken internal parts could be heard rattling around inside, which confirmed that the unit had failed mechanically rather than simply needing adjustment or lubrication.
I had the correct replacement gearbox in van stock, fitted it and then made the small adjustments needed to get the patio-door locking points operating cleanly with the frame.
After testing the complete system, the handles and multipoint lock were working smoothly again.
