A customer in Bracknell got in touch because several windows around the property were causing problems. Some were draughty, some would not close properly and a number of the handles had become loose.
After the initial inspection, I started looking for the correct hinge type. To my surprise, the originals were not readily available in the UK and the direct replacements appeared to need sourcing from Australia.
That was not a realistic route once the cost and logistics were taken into account, so I looked for the closest suitable alternative instead.
I eventually found hinges with almost identical specifications and fitted them successfully.
One of the windows also had a wooden frame that had swollen slightly, so it needed some additional adjustment before the sash would sit correctly.
Once the replacement hinges and adjustments were finished, the windows were closing properly again and the draughty gaps were eliminated without having to source the expensive original hardware from overseas.
