A former customer in Staines got in touch because the multipoint lock had failed for the second time with exactly the same internal problem: the cam had shattered.
The first time this happened, the mechanism was not using the lower cam, so I swapped the two cams over rather than replacing the complete locking system. That repair lasted nearly two years, which was a useful amount of extra life from the original mechanism.
This time there was no spare position left to use, so a full replacement was the sensible option.
One of my suppliers still had the correct system in stock, so I ordered it for next-day delivery. In the meantime I fitted an overnight lock so the customer could secure the door safely.
I returned the following day with the new multipoint mechanism, fitted it and tested the complete locking operation.
The door was secure and working normally again, this time with the full replacement system rather than another internal workaround.
