A customer in Staines called because the front door could no longer be opened. They still had access from inside the property, but the door would not unlock from there either.
I removed the handles from the inside to gain access to the failed locking system. The existing handles were already looking rather dated, so the customer decided to replace them while the door was being repaired.
The cylinder was also due for a security upgrade, so I removed it as part of the opening process.
The multipoint gearbox itself was blocked. I made a small controlled access opening into the centre case, released the jammed mechanism and got the door open.
With access restored, I replaced the failed gearbox, fitted the new handles and installed the replacement cylinder.
After reassembly and adjustment, the front door was opening, closing and locking normally again.
