An estate agent in Staines got in touch about a garden back door at the end of a tenancy. The lock needed replacing before the property moved on to the next occupant.
The old Yale lock was so rusty that it looked as though it might have been there for at least 20 years. Being a Yale, perhaps it really had lasted that long.
Replacing the lock itself took only a couple of minutes. The part that took longer was getting the door to latch properly afterwards. The backbox and keep were out of adjustment, something I had not been told about before arriving but which the estate agent quite reasonably wanted to see working once the new lock was fitted.
I spent another 15 minutes or so adjusting the keep and backbox until the latch engaged properly. The result was not just a new lock, but a back door that actually closed and latched as it should.
